Some things take longer than you planned, and you have no idea until you’re in it how much longer they’re going to take.
The Adventure Collection has been living in my head for a long time. The idea was simple: a personalized dog collar with a nameplate — (I also wanted to do custom dog tags…that’s another story) but an engraved nameplate riveted directly onto the collar. Permanent. Silent. Undeniably beautiful.
The execution? Considerably less simple.
Why I Wanted This in the First Place
The short version: a repeat client came back to me with collars I’d made — collars I was proud of — that had taken a beating from serious outdoor use. The HTV vinyl had degraded. Not because the Biothane® had failed (it never does), but because vinyl has limits that hard adventuring will eventually find.
That moment crystallized something I’d been thinking about for a while. I needed a line that was built differently. Something for the dogs who don’t slow down — the adventure dogs, the working dogs, trail runners, the dog who thinks “leash manners” is a suggestion — that didn’t ask their owners to choose between beautiful and bulletproof.
The answer was an engraved nameplate. No vinyl. No printing. Just your dog’s name cut directly into stainless steel and riveted onto the collar.
The Part Where I Learned the Hard Way
I did not just immediately find the perfect nameplate and call it a day.
I tried the available options first. The ones you can order from suppliers, the ones that look fine in product photos. Here is what I found:
The rivet holes were placed too close to the edge of the plate. Once the nameplate curves to follow the dog’s neck, that placement exposes a sliver of the hole — not the finished look I wanted. I was also having to manually shave the holes down because they were cut too small for standard rivets to seat properly. And the finish. Most of them were flat, almost matte — which sounds fine until you’re holding it next to polished stainless and you understand what you’ve been missing. Flat nameplates are also harder to curve correctly, which matters when you’re trying to get a clean fit across a 2.5″ collar.
I kept looking. I kept being disappointed.
At some point I decided: if I can’t find what I’m looking for, I need to have it made.
Ordering Something You’ve Never Seen in Person
Here is what I did not do: order a sample first.
I know. I know.
The manufacturer’s photos looked exactly right. The proportions looked right. But you know how it is — you’re working from images on a screen, and images are deeply unreliable witnesses for the things that actually matter, like how a curve will land across a specific width, or what a finish really looks like in your hands under your studio lights.
So I gave them my specifications. Exact dimensions. The curve radius. The hole placement. The finish. And then I waited.
I will not pretend I didn’t check the tracking more than was reasonable.
When They Arrived
I opened the package and my first thought — the actual first thought, before I’d even set anything down — was OMG the polish.
Polished stainless steel is one of those things where you think you understand what it means until you’re holding a piece of it and you realize you didn’t fully understand at all. It’s reflective. It has weight. It looks expensive in the way that things look expensive when they actually are — not when they’re trying to be.
And then I engraved one.
Clean. Sharp. Perfect depth. The kind of result where you run your fingertip across the letters and feel exactly what you were hoping you’d feel.
My measurements were right. Every dimension landed exactly where I’d calculated it would. The holes are placed correctly. The curve sits flush. The rivets seat properly. The nameplate sits against the collar like it was always meant to be there — because it was.
Six weeks of checking tracking for this. Worth every refresh.
What the Adventure Collection Actually Is
The nameplate is 2.5″ × 0.75″ polished stainless steel, laser engraved with your dog’s name (up to 12 characters). It’s attached to the collar with rivets — not a clip, not a slide, not something that loosens over time. Riveted on, which means it’s as permanent as the collar itself.
The collars are Biothane® — the same waterproof, wipe-clean material across the rest of the line. Nickel-coated silver hardware or black powder-coated buckle/r-ring/chicago screw hardware. Available in 1″, 1.5″, and 2″ widths.
And because this is still Cora’s Canine Collective, you can add a full rhinestone backing on the 1.5″ and 2″ widths. Tough and beautiful are not mutually exclusive here. That’s kind of the whole point.
Pricing starts at $40 for a 1″ classic collar and goes up depending on width, whether you want a UV-printed pattern, and whether you want the rhinestone backing. The nameplate is included in every price — it’s not an add-on, it’s the whole point of the collection.
Who This Is For
The dog who goes everywhere. The dog who gets wet, gets dirty, gets into things, and rarely slows down. The dog whose name you want on their collar not as an afterthought but as a statement.
Dogs with names. All of them, really.
The no-jingle benefit is genuinely underrated — silent ID is something a lot of dog owners don’t know they want until they have it, and then they can’t imagine going back.
