Materials, at a Glance

What is Biothane?
A durable, waterproof, odor-resistant material made of polyester webbing coated in PVC or TPU. For the full story, including why not all “Biothane” on the market is the same, read What Is Biothane?

Are Biothane collars safe for my dog?
Yes. It’s soft, flexible, non-toxic, and hypoallergenic. As with any collar, give your dog’s neck regular airflow rather than leaving it on 24/7.

Are Biothane products strong enough for large or active dogs?
Yes. Our hardware is rated for 375+ pounds of pressure, and we use Chicago screws with Loctite for extra security.

Do Biothane collars come in different colors?
Yes, a wide range, and if you don’t see the color you want, ask, we may be able to source it.

Will the black hardware stay black?
The black finish is a black powder coating over steel, so it can wear at high-friction contact points over time, revealing silver underneath. This is cosmetic, not a functional issue. If your dog swims often and you want the black look to last, rinse and dry the hardware after water activities. One more note for light-coated dogs: black hardware can occasionally transfer slight color at the contact point.

Collar Care

Rhinestone and artwork collars each have their own care needs, fully covered on dedicated pages:

A couple of the most-asked questions, answered quickly:

Is the heat transfer vinyl permanent?
It’s a strong, durable bond designed for everyday wear, but it’s a surface layer, not embedded into the material, so it’s not indestructible. Treat it like artwork, not adventure gear. Full details in the Artwork Collar Care Guide.

Will the rhinestones fall off?
Every stone is hand-set into a rimset and resin-backed before placement…not a standard step in this industry, and the reason stones stay put. What can cause stone loss: repeated scraping on hard surfaces, unsupervised tie-outs or crating, rough wrestling with other dogs, nails, teeth, or other unsupervised wear. Treat it like fine jewelry. Wear it everywhere, just take it off for the rough stuff. Full details in the Rhinestone Collar Care Guide.
